The Other Side of Lori

If you have come to this page you actually read through my bio (thanks!) and were interested in discovering what else makes me tick.

I’ve lived in the fine state of Washington all my life. I was born in Wenatchee and raised in Seattle. I received my education in the
Shoreline School District and graduated from the University of Washington. I currently live in Shoreline with my husband Jon and two sons, Riley and Dylan. As you can tell, I didn’t stray far from the nest. Our in-laws live within five miles of us. This makes holiday planning very nice!

I love music! Whether I am in the car, at home or at work, it is part of my day. I am a child of the 80’s and I love 80’s music (Prince, Madonna, Depeche Mode, Erasure and Hall and Oates, to name a few). If you have worked with me you have heard this music — whether you wanted to or not. I must say that’s not all I listen to; I also enjoy R&B/soul, dance, reggae, classic rock, alternative, dance, pop, and even hip hop/rap.
I get the most joy in my life spending time with my fabulous family and friends. We own a motor home and take trips throughout the year. In the spring and summer you will find us in Hood River, Oregon where my husband windsurfs and we bike, hike, and play in the sun. In the winter we head up to Crystal Mountain to snowboard. An active lifestyle is a healthy one!

Speaking of an active lifestyle — I enjoy exercise! I head to the gym and mix it up with some swimming, biking, running, cardio machines, and weights. My favorite sports to play are soccer and volleyball, although I no longer play because of timing, schedules, and other commitments (maybe someday). In 2002, a friend of mine was talking about doing the Danskin Women’s Triathlon. We had both recently delivered our second sons and decided we wanted some exercise. The summer of 2002 was my first triathlon. It was a very inspirational experience! I did it again in 2003 and 2004.
In my relaxed state I love to read and watch movies. I enjoy a variety of subjects when it comes to books (mysteries, parenting, poetry, self help/new age, and the list goes on…). When it comes to movies, I am a sucker for a good romance. The more I cry, the better the movie. I love the old classics: if it is black and white, I am watching it. Shirley Temple and Audrey Hepburn are favorites. I also like independent films and comedies. Interesting fact: I once wanted to be a stand up comedian (a dentist and teacher too). Imagine that!
I love spending time outside! If I had my druthers I would be playing or lounging in the sun all day. On a beach playing volleyball, bodysurfing in the waves, or in a lounge chair with a book in one hand and a pineapple juice in the other. But since we aren’t in Maui, what else do I like doing? I love getting up close with nature. Whether hiking, biking, beachcombing, bird watching, or river rafting, the Pacific Northwest offers an endless supply of options. I guess that’s why I have stayed here so long.

I am a photo-taking woman! Everyone knows that I will be the one at the event with the camera. It all started when I was a young girl with a Polaroid. The sound of the photo whizzing out of the camera, the lovely smell of chemicals, and finally the impatient shaking of the photo. In high school I was the photographer and photo editor of my senior annual. In college I took a photography class and after having kids I decided that I wanted to capture every moment I could. I wanted my kids to have their history in photos. I didn’t want them to wonder what happened on their first birthday, first day of school, or first soccer game. “Every picture tells a story don’t it…." (song lyric).
My creative side! After leaving PhotoWorks I had some time to spend taking photos in nature. My favorite subjects are flowers, insects, landscapes and people. The photos made their way onto cards and other products. You can see my photos and cards at http://www.busybeestudio.com.

Shameless plug from my son: while I was working on my web site my oldest son (Riley) asked what I was putting on my site. I told him there would be information about me and what solutions I can provide companies. He asked if I was going to tell people I had two sons, because that would show everyone I knew how to work well with people. How true it is! The most challenging and most rewarding job I’ve ever had has been raising my two sons.
